Anthropic opens a Madrid office and signs SME partners

Anthropic opens its seventh European office in Madrid and adds a Spanish consultancy to its SME partner network. What to demand before hiring one.

Published on · Evicron

On September 17, 2026, Anthropic announced its first office in Spain, based in Madrid — its seventh European location after London, Dublin, Paris, Zurich, Munich and Milan — as reported by Computing and IPMark. Cristina Pitarch, who spent over 15 years at Google, Salesforce and Informatica, leads it as Country Manager for Spain; Anthropic points to its own Economic Index showing Claude adoption in Spain running 2.7 times higher than population size would predict. Days earlier, on September 15, Anthropic had updated Claude for Small Business with 43 workflows and 27 new integrations, and named the first partners in its SME-focused network — including a Spanish consultancy. At Evicron, an AI and custom software studio based in Barcelona, both announcements point the same way: generative AI now has a local commercial presence in Spain, and that changes what an SME should demand before hiring anyone.

Two announcements, one direction

The Madrid office isn’t just symbolic: it means support, events and sales conducted in Spanish, something that until now depended on offices in London or Dublin. In parallel, the Claude for Small Business update — aimed at companies under 500 employees — added integrations with tools any SME recognizes: Shopify, Salesforce, Zoom, Xero, Gusto, Square, Stripe and Zapier, among others, per Forbes. One detail worth noting: all 43 workflows start by default in approval mode — Claude drafts an action, such as an email, a post or a payment, but doesn’t execute it until a person confirms it.

A Spanish consultancy, among the first eleven

Alongside that update, Anthropic named its first group of partners specialized in bringing Claude to SMEs: A.team, AnswerRocket, Bold Tech, Caylent, Grid Dynamics, Loka and The Agile Monkeys, among others. The latter is the only Spanish firm on the list: a boutique consultancy that became a Select Partner in the Claude Partner Network back in July 2026, with 37 Claude-certified architects on staff, according to Diario Siglo XXI. Having a certified partner ecosystem already in place — with a Spanish firm inside it — signals that AI implementation for SMEs is no longer nobody’s territory.

What this actually means for your business

For a Spanish SME, these two stories together translate into something concrete: more support in Spanish, more available training, and more companies presenting themselves as Claude implementation specialists. That’s good news — it lowers the barrier to entry — but it also multiplies the number of vendors knocking on your door offering “AI for your business,” without the partner badge alone guaranteeing they can actually solve your specific problem. A partner certified by Anthropic knows the tool; it doesn’t necessarily understand your operation, your regulated sector, or the system you already run on.

What to demand from an implementation partner before signing

  1. Real cases in your sector, not just in general. Certified architects on staff say nothing about whether a partner has solved a problem like yours before — ask for verifiable references.
  2. Whether they apply a template or build something custom. The 43 Claude for Small Business workflows cover generic cases — sales, marketing, reporting; if your operation has particular quirks (shifts, sector-specific rules, integrations with your own ERP), a standard workflow can fall short.
  3. What happens to your data. Who has access, where it’s stored, and whether the default human-approval step stays on or gets switched off “to move faster” — turning it off is usually the first crack.
  4. Whether there’s lock-in. A partner who only knows how to operate inside one closed ecosystem ties you to them, not to the tool. We covered this in more detail in what to demand from an AI agent vendor.

How we evaluate this at Evicron

Our AI consultancy for businesses always starts from the same question, before looking at which tool or which partner is trending: which specific process in your business is wasting the most time today. Often the answer is a packaged workflow like the ones Anthropic just launched; other times, when your operation doesn’t fit a generic template, the answer is custom software built around your case, without depending on whether an outside partner still exists two years from now.
