Spain's Kit Digital AI grant: up to €6,000 for your SME
Spain's Kit Digital program added an AI category in 2026: up to €6,000 per service for SMEs, with limited funds. What it covers and how to apply.
Kit Digital, the Spanish government’s grant program for digitalizing SMEs and freelancers, added a dedicated artificial intelligence category in April 2026, worth up to €6,000 per service. Order TDF/39/2026 (published in the BOE on January 28, 2026) also reactivated the program with leftover funds from earlier rounds: there’s no fixed closing date, money is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, and according to Acelera Pyme AECIM, it’s limited. If your company has spent months putting off adding AI to daily operations, this is the window with the fewest excuses left.
What the AI category actually covers
The catalog splits AI tools into three official categories, each with its own voucher of up to €6,000:
- Customer management with AI: CRM and sales tools with AI capabilities — lead scoring, automated replies, interaction summaries.
- Business intelligence and analytics with AI: dashboards and predictive analytics built on data your business already generates.
- Process management with AI: automation of internal workflows — invoicing, inventory, internal support — with AI components.
This isn’t a voucher for “AI in general”: the provider has to be registered in Acelera Pyme’s official catalog, and the solution has to fit one of these three categories. Anything outside the catalog isn’t covered, however good the project is.
How much is available, by company size
Kit Digital works in tiers based on headcount, with a global voucher that can be split across several catalog categories — not just AI:
- Microbusinesses and freelancers (0 to under 3 employees): the smallest voucher.
- SMEs with 3 to under 10 employees and 10 to under 50: mid-range vouchers, up to €12,000 in the larger tier.
- Medium-sized companies with 50 to 249 employees: the voucher reaches €29,000, the program’s ceiling.
Whatever your tier, the per-service cap for AI stays at €6,000: a company entitled to a larger voucher can spread it across AI and other categories (cybersecurity, e-commerce, virtual office…), but can’t put the whole amount into a single AI tool.
How the process works, and what’s left out
The flow is always the same: you register as a beneficiary on the official portal acelerapyme.gob.es, pick a “digitizing agent” whose solutions are listed in the catalog, sign the service agreement, and the agent implements the tool. The voucher is deducted directly from the service invoice — it’s not paid out as cash.
What Kit Digital doesn’t cover is the part that matters most for many SMEs: anything that isn’t already a packaged product in the catalog. An AI assistant trained on your company’s actual data, a custom integration between your ERP and a language model, or an automation workflow that doesn’t fit any of the three official categories all fall outside the voucher. According to IONOS, 35% of Spanish SMEs will budget for AI in 2026, up from 22% in 2025 — and a good part of that budget will have to cover exactly what the catalog doesn’t reach.
Our recommendation
At Evicron, an AI and custom software studio based in Barcelona, we see the same pattern in every audit: the Kit Digital catalog handles the standard part well — an AI-powered CRM, a BI dashboard — but the real competitive edge is almost always in the specific process that doesn’t look like the one next door’s. Our advice, in order:
- Check first if your case fits the catalog. If an AI-powered CRM or BI dashboard solves the problem, Kit Digital is the cheapest route: use it before considering anything custom.
- Apply for the voucher as soon as possible. With limited funds allocated first-come, first-served, waiting until September to “think it over” could mean missing the budget entirely.
- If your problem doesn’t fit the three official categories, don’t force the fit just to use the grant: an AI consulting engagement with a free audit tells you in one session whether there’s real potential and how it lines up with what Kit Digital already covers.
- For whatever falls outside the catalog, custom applied AI starts at €6,000 with a first working demo in week 2 — no need for the provider to be registered in any public catalog.
Bottom line
Since April 2026, Kit Digital has included an AI category with vouchers of up to €6,000 per service, inside a program ranging from a few thousand euros for freelancers to €29,000 for medium-sized companies, reactivated with leftover funds and no fixed closing date. It covers standard catalog solutions well; anything beyond that — automations or assistants built around your specific operations — still needs a different kind of investment.
